Recorder's Office
The most popular services of the King County Recorder's Office are our online records search and marriage licensing. We are committed to the prompt and accurate recording of documents, such as real estate deeds and mortgages, plats and surveys, as well as the preservation and producing copies of of recorded documents. Our office is also responsible for collecting real estate excise taxes.
Some of our services are available online, but for those who prefer to visit us in person, we're conveniently located at the King County Customer Service Center in Pioneer Square.
The FIFA World Cup men's soccer tournament is coming to Seattle June 15 – July 6. Matches will be held at Lumen Field, which will be called "Seattle Stadium" for the duration of the tournament.
Roads surrounding King Street Center and the building’s parking garage will be closed during the World Cup matches. Expect significant pedestrian activity in the area. Match dates and more information: kingcounty.gov/world-cup

In-person access to King County Recorder’s Office will be impacted by World Cup matches in June and July. The King County Customer Service Center located at King Street Center will be open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as usual, however, customers are encouraged to consider using online services.
- Documents to be recorded can be mailed to 201 S. Jackson St. Suite 204 Seattle, WA 98104.
- The online Marriage Kiosk is open and available. Only one person will need to be present at a kiosk to pay and collect the licensing packet if you are applying for a marriage license on a World Cup match day.

Recording Activity Notification System now available
Sign up for our new Recording Activity Notification System (RANS).
This free electronic notification service will send an email to a subscriber any time a land records document matching the subscribed name is recorded. Subscribers can register their own personal name or their business name for monitoring.

The responsibility for preparing a document for recording lies with the preparer, not the King County Recorder's Office or its Deputy Auditors.
Our staff can:
- Determine if your documents meet legibility requirements
- Determine if your documents are formatted correctly
- Determine if the indexing information on your documents is complete
- Determine if the correct fees are being collected
Our staff cannot:
- Suggest what types of documents or templates to use
- Help you fill out your documents
- Determine the legal correctness of your document
- Accept illegible documents
